Elucidat Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer by websites and apps that you visit. They are widely used in order to make websites and apps work, or work more efficiently. By using cookies, we are able to provide you with a better experience and to improve our site and app with a greater understanding of how you use it.

To provide you with the best experience we also use web beacons, little snippets of code that work together with cookies. Beacons have many purposes. At Elucidat we use them to provide you with relevant content and to see if you opened up an email we sent and clicked on any of the links in the email.

Please read this Cookie Policy carefully and ensure that you understand it. It should be read in conjunction with our Privacy Policy which sets out how we treat your personal data.

What cookies do we collect:

Cookies are categorized by their origin as first party cookies or third party cookies:

  • First-Party Cookies – cookies set by us and used within our control.
  • Third-Party Cookies – set by someone other than Elucidat.

We also categorize the cookies we collect based on their purpose:

  • Website cookies – these cookies are collected when you visit our website. The website cookies are divided into:
  1. Necessary cookies – these help make a website usable by enabling basic functions like page navigation and access to secure areas of the website. The website cannot function properly without these cookies.
  2. Preferences cookies – these enable a website to remember information that changes the way the website behaves or looks, like your preferred language or the region that you are in.
  3. Functional cookies – these cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies then some or all of these services may not function properly.
  4. Targeting cookies – these cookies may be set through our site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. They do not store directly personal information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising.
  • Elucidat software application cookies – these cookies are collected when you visit our Elucidat app. The app cookies are divided into:
  1. Authoring app cookies – cookies are primarily used in the Elucidat app to support authentication, app features and product feedback.
  2. Learner cookies – these cookies are used in the app to support the learning experience and provide subscription functionality  in the Analyse area.

How you can manage the cookies we collect

Website and subdomain cookies

We use a pop up to help you easily manage your website cookie preferences. You will see this pop up when you first visit our website. After that initial visit, you will also be able to manage your consent using this Cookie Settings link or by visiting the settings through the shield icon that can be found in the left corner of the screen at all times and on all of our pages.

You can opt in or out of cookies using the banner. Please be aware even if you opt out, we will still have to collect the necessary cookies that are in the policy (see the list of cookies below). This is because the website cannot function properly without these cookies.

If you opt out of cookies, we will not be collecting preferences, statistics or marketing cookies. Be aware that if you choose this option your experiences on our website will still be impacted. For example, you won’t be able to see videos on our website because video embeds use cookies that are not classified as necessary. You will be notified by us when this happens and you will be able to change your preferences at that point if you so wish.

If you turn off cookies, web beacons will still detect your visit to our site; however, they will not be associated with information otherwise stored in cookies. You can control the use of some beacons by setting your email client to display HTML emails as text only. How to do this will depend on the email client you are using. For example, Microsoft Outlook provides a helpful guide on how to do this here.

Our cookie banner also has the capability to omit you from usage analytics to the extent your browser sends a “do not track” message to our website. This means that if you have “do-not-track” enabled on, browser level cookies won’t be collected. Be aware that if you do this even some of the necessary cookies won’t be tracked. This means your experience on the website might be negatively impacted.

Additionally, you can manage your cookies on a browser level. This is where you use your browser to block cookies from being tracked. How you do this will depend on which browser you are using. This site is a helpful resource to show you how to manage cookies across any browser you might be using.

Third parties, other than our vendors assisting our business do not have authorization from us to track your uses of the website or track what other activities you may have engaged in before or after using the website (for example, using a different website). That said, as we cannot control third-party tracking, there may be some third-party tracking that occurs without our knowledge or consent.

App cookies

As with our website we also use strictly necessary cookies in our authoring app, Elucidat, and also in the courses that you produce using the app. You will not be able to opt out of these cookies because they are essential for you to be able to access the app and create and support your learning.

All our cookie sets for the author and learner experience are strictly necessary.

One thing to note in relation to your preferences is that we do not presently have the capability to omit you from usage analytics if your browser sends a “do not track” message.

A cookie is a small piece of data (text file) that a website – when visited by a user – asks your browser to store on your device in order to remember information about you, such as your language preference or login information. Those cookies are set by us and called first-party cookies. We also use third-party cookies – which are cookies from a domain different than the domain of the website you are visiting – for our advertising and marketing efforts. More specifically, we use cookies and other tracking technologies for the following purposes:
