Tesco, the United Kingdom’s largest retailer with 500,000 employees globally, wanted to move away from face-to-face training and make better use of digital learning. In the past, adoption of authoring tools was low, Tesco needed a tool that was simple enough to encourage usage, but flexible enough to customize.
Tesco is the United Kingdom’s largest retailer, employing over 500,000 people globally. The company has a diverse portfolio of businesses, expanding beyond supermarkets to other retail and online offerings.
But delivering training to 500,000 people globally isn’t an easy task. Let’s look at how they built beautiful, multi-device elearning with the help of Elucidat’s authoring platform.
Tesco wanted to move away from face-to-face training and make better use of digital learning inside the business. Sam Taylor, Digital Learning Manager, needed a solution that could deliver learning to colleagues far quicker than they had done in the past.
She also wanted to give colleagues the opportunity to learn on tablet and smartphone devices.
The team had been using an authoring tool but it wasn’t widely adopted inside the business. Sam needed a tool that was simple enough to encourage adoption, but flexible enough to customize.
Using Elucidat, Tesco can deliver learning at the point of need, offering far more flexibility than face-to-face training.
Elucidat has made it easy for trainers to create great looking elearning with just two hours of training. Tesco’s experienced team members can also design advanced elearning. They are using branching scenarios and menu screens to create non-linear learning.
Elucidat’s responsive design feature seamlessly delivers Tesco’s learning on smartphone and tablet devices. Now Tesco’s learners can access learning on both desktop and mobile devices.
Tesco rolled out Elucidat to 37 authors. Every user was very surprised at how easy it was to use. Even inexperienced staff could use the tool with just two hours of training.
Over a period of three months, Tesco saw a 50% increase in the number of users using Elucidat (unheard of with past authoring tools).
Here’s a quick screenshot of a Tesco Academy course being built with Elucidat:
Sam Taylor and her team are now creating elearning modules in a couple of days or weeks, instead of months.
Now Tesco is using Elucidat for all types of learning: compliance training, leadership skills training, and diagnostic assessments.
